C1 (13c), Early Carboniferous

Province:
Heilongjiang

Type Locality and Naming

The type section is located at Cuigang Township, Xinlin area, Tahe District, Heilongjiang. It was named by Sun Shangmo in 1983.

Lithology and Thickness

Claystone and Limestone. The formation is composed of a suite of carbonate rocks and clastic rocks of the neritic shelf facies, locally epi-metamorphosed. Lower part is dominated by siliceous rock, siliceous bioclast-bearing clayey mudstone, and slate with limestone lenses. Middle part consists of bioclastic tuffaceous and clayey slates. Upper part, of silty and clayey slates, micritic limestone and banded marble. It is 584.4 m at the type section, and over 1645 m thick in the Daxigou Forest Farm in central Humahe District.

Lithology Pattern:
Siliceous limestone

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

Unconformable over the Middle Devonian Gagala Fm at the naming locality. Regionally, the next older unit is the Beixing Fm volcaniclastics overlying uppermost Devonian Qilikashan Fm, and age of upper Beixing Fm overlaps lower part of this Cuiganglinchang Fm.

Upper contact

Uncertain: the top boundary is not clear at the naming locality. Next younger regional unit is the volcanics of Xinghuo Fm.

Regional extent

Mainly distributed in areas such as the central Humahe District, the Daxigou Forest Farm and the Cuigang Forest Farm of the Xinlin area
